Birdie Kim

This weekend, the world's greatest female golfers competed in the 60th Women's U.S. Open. And the winner is ... Birdie Kim. That's right, Birdie Kim. Ms. Kim is a native of South Korea. South Korea is a veritable factory for world class female golfers, and Kim is the most common surname in that nation. In fact, there were seven other Kims in the U.S. Open field. In order to set herself apart, Ms. Kim recently changed her first name to "Birdie." And, it was a miraculous birdie on the 72nd hole that won the championship for Ms. Kim. Perhaps the teenaged runner-ups Brittany Lang and Morgan Pressel should change their names to "Eagle" before next year's Open.
